Blog #10

This week’s blog allows for freedom to choose a product, business or service that is new in 2022. For this week’s blog, I’ve decided to expand and explain the Biodegradable Bamboo Charcoal Dental Floss product, created by Me Mother Earth. This product contains biodegradable bamboo fiber, is plastic-free and is sold in a “glass jar that can be recycled or reused infinitely.” The floss eventually breaks down completely within 60-90 days. Traditional dental floss is plastic that obviously doesn’t break down and causes harmful health problems for ocean life and can even result in deaths. Me Mother Earth is producing a product that is already a worldwide household item but are providing a much safer and environmentally friendly option for people to help the earth become greener. Eliminating all the plastic from the traditional dental floss will only benefit the environment and also raise awareness for ocean life protection.  References:  Photo & Info: https://www.bestproducts.com/home/d

As a company, an important ability to have for your products are to make them  environmentally friendly. The product and company I chose for this blog is Glad. They’ve created  a biodegradable composite bin linear, eliminating the plastic one’s results in huge decrease in  the use of plastic for such a common and useful product. Along with it being biodegradable,  they’ve added scents to the bin liners to freshen up the smell from the bin while there’s waste in  it, just a bonus attribute! These bin liners “meet the requirements of municipal compost  programs, ASTM D6400 standards and are certified compostable by the industry standards.”  These are such an important product for the environment because they don’t produce any toxins  when they break down into the ground and create healthy soil on top of that. Glad introduced  this product to make households more sustainable and environmentally friendly. Joy Delis of the  marketing section stated, “We are developing produc

For my transportation practice that has made its way into production, it’s the Smart Bike. The Smart Bike was designed in China, and it is an autonomous bike that has been expressed as a “versatile cargo vehicle”. The Smart Bike also has the ability to listen to commands you say to it along with “sensors that help the bike avoid obstacles and maintain balance.” This bike could be a ginormous success within the next few years because of its convenience, ability to avoid obstacles and self-drive itself. Yes, bikes have been around for hundreds of years, but for some people the safety that comes with this bike, its environmentally friendly attributes and cargo space will allow for people to make an easy switch from their cars on a day-to-day basis. Sometimes, people on bikes have their headphones in and can’t hear if there’s an object coming their way resulting in physical damage. The fact that this is a bike made for the environment and can maintain its balance and avo

Throughout time, mankind has done extreme damages to the planet, but there are still small goals we can strive towards to help as much as we can. It doesn’t take much for us to find items that we can start using that are reusable. Two items that I personally use that are reusable are water bottles and cloth tote bags I bring every time I go to the grocery store. Although these seem like small little items, they go a long way in terms of plastic use. Eliminating the product of plastic water bottles in my house go a long way due to the amounts of water I try to obtain every day. I personally strive to drink 2 litres of water each day, which results in 4 500ml plastic water bottles. Just over the course of one week, that’s 28 plastic water bottles.    Moving onto tote bags, it is the same kind of premise. Although I don’t go grocery shop every day, the elimination of having to purchase plastic garbage bags every week goes a long way and businesses are beginning to stop selling plastic b

Throughout time, there have been many things’ humans have caused whether it be for good or bad. A massive topic that is widely known is the extinction of animals due to human activity. For this blog, I’ve decided to go into depth about the Passenger Pigeon. This bird was announced extinct on September 14th, 1914, from the Cincinnati Zoo. Due to hunters over a hundred years ago, this bird was on its way to extinction because they were hunted by the millions for their meat and were shipped throughout the country to be sold at town and city markets. " Hunters often raided their nesting grounds and annihilated entire colonies in a single breeding season." Along with the massive amounts of passenger pigeons being hunted every year, another causation for their extinction was the action of deforestation, and for obvious reasons this limited the habitat for these birds. To prevent the extinction of the passenger pigeon, the reckless amount of hunting that was done per

Creating an environmental product or service is always appreciated and for obvious reasons, globally  welcomed, but in some instances, they end up being more hurtful to the environment than helpful.  A very  popular service today is Uber. Uber is a transportation company that allows  people to use their own  cars to  earn money by picking up people like a taxi service. People believed that if we started using Uber more  and sharing rides with our friends, that it would lower pollution because of the  carpooling, but that's not  the case. This is because Uber drivers are constantly driving between fares  resulting in much larger  amounts of kilometres driven, along with an "increase of traffic congestion resulting in higher greenhouse  gas emissions" due to a study taken by researchers at Carnegie Mellon University. Since Uber's  start, it has  been the most popular  transportation option, other  than driving yourself. Uber introduced "ride share"

As time moves on and people continue to innovate, a huge industry for products is the ability to  make  them environmental friendly. For this blog, I found a very interesting product that is 100% green  with an amazing purpose. The company I've chosen is called Avocado, and they have created a green  mattress that is recyclable once it's no longer useable, along with the ability to reduce emissions.  Created in 2016, the company Avocado decided to start producing a green mattress that is "made from  non-toxic, natural, and organic materials." 6 years later, Avocado is a successful company that produces  not only organic mattresses, but also pillows and bedding. The idea of this has resulted in the company  to be "Climate Neutral Certified" and their factories are even "powered by renewable energy and are  approaching zero waste." Although a mattress isn't a product that is constantly purchased by a person  on a yearly basis, this pro
