Climate Change

 Climate Change Blog - September 18th, 2022

What is climate change? Climate change is the long term effects of the worlds weather and temperature patterns. While some climate change is nature driven and determined, a lot of it is now controlled and determined by the actions we've taken throughout creation and innovation.

The commitments the Liberal party and Justin Trudeau made during the 2015 election included:

  • “We will fulfill our G20 commitment and phase out subsidies for the fossil fuel industry over the medium-term.”
  • “We will also work in partnership with the United States and Mexico to develop an ambitious North American clean energy and environmental agreement.”
  • “Together, we will attend the Paris climate conference, and within 90 days formally meet to establish a pan-Canadian framework for combating climate change.”
  • “We will endow the Low Carbon Economy Trust with $2 billion in our mandate.": (The Narwhal; Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Climate Change: https://thenarwhal.ca/topics/justin-trudeau-climate-change-canada/)
Although these were promises made to the Canadian citizens, it doesn't mean that all were taken into effect. Trudeau's political position about fossil fuels has made some noise throughout politics as people believe it "conflicts with his climate commitments". After reading through this article, it seems like the Canadian government and Justin Trudeau have not only made a positive change in the country's climate change, but is "experiencing warming at twice the rate of the rest of the world, and northern Canada is heating up at almost three times the global average." This statistic shows me that the government hasn't done anything even remotely important and effective enough to control climate change.

A country I investigated into that has a very effective climate change is Denmark. "Since 2005, the country has accomplished a 23 % reduction in net emissions, exceeding the EU's achievement of 16.2 %. According to the Danish government, this has been mainly due to energy sector developments, and in particular the decrease in the carbon intensity of the energy mix."(https://www.europarl.europa.eu/RegData/etudes/BRIE/2021/679106/EPRS_BRI(2021)679106_EN.pdf) with these actions and proven positive change, Canada could easily learn some things from Denmark's efforts in the climate change section to improve our own climate moving forward.
